It only seems like yesterday that I was writing that it was nearly Christmas and now look at it! Already the first week into January 2011 ! Doesn't time fly when you are having fun? So, I hope that you are all heartily sick of the turkey, the tree has been consigned back to the loft and the last remaining sweets are tempting you to eat them before you start your new diet.:)
I never really fathomed why people have New Year resolutions. Is it simply because it is the start of the year that people tend to get a little crazy and decide that they are going to diet, exercise and learn how to play the piano? And why do so many people fail after the first week? In my opinion it is merely peer pressure that makes people come up with these suggestions, and they never really want to do them but "go along for the ride". Now, if someone REALLY wants to do something, then surely the time of year is not going to make any difference. I started my journey of weight loss, healthy diet and exercise-something that changed my life completely and for the better-half way through the year. I wasn't ready in January to make those changes to my life; but by the end of May I was ready, willing and able to implement them and start a whole new chapter.
I guess that as folk we are a bit odd; okay, well maybe not you, but certainly I consider myself to be a little "quirky", let's say! Others would no doubt call it something different, ranging from eccentric to just plain old and past it! But, I reckon that being different is humankind's saving grace. Why do we want to be like each other? Let's take a look at fashion as a prime example of being forced to look like every other person on the street. Assume that it is summer and you want to buy some court shoes. Can you find any? Can you heck! Summer is for sandals, so regardless of the fact that you have to go to a very smart business meeting with new clients, you will have to go in ridiculous sandals or make a trip to the shoe repairer and hope that he can perform miracles to your year old scuffed and tired looking courts that have seen better days because you wear them for driving. Stripes were in last year (not sure what is "in" this year-fashion isn't high on my to do list!) and whilst I like stripes, I prefer mine to be vertical-and thus make me look much slimmer-rather than horizontal which always reminds be of a barrel. Alas, I have to report that I could not find any such vertical stripes, as the powers that be had deemed that only horizontal stripes were to be permitted. Again, we are forced to look like counterparts to a revolution unless of course we are wealthy enough to buy some designer label that few can afford (and so outlandish that none of the high street stores want to make a cheaper version of).
I need to go and do something amazing now; like find some work that is going to pay me! Being self employed has its advantages; I can do what I like when I like, but the downside is that trying to find clients is hard. Maybe I need a manager who can find the work for me so that I just do it! Maybe I am day dreaming and have just seen a pig fly by my window! But hey ho! It's off to work I go.....
